Cocoa Beach FL
- Street sign in Cocoa Beach late Saturday afternoon. The dream
is about to be realized tonight, and it won't be a good one. |
Cocoa Beach FL - Sunday
morning. The Grand Buffet shows a few scars from
its battle with Jeanne during the night. |
Cocoa Beach FL - This commercial
building got whacked hard by some large airborne debris. |
Cocoa Beach FL - These folks
will have more to do than looking for where the "T"
and "E" went come Monday morning. |
Melbourne FL - Office Space |
Melbourne FL - Imagine the
arcing when this happened. |
Melbourne FL - Not the safest
place to park during a Cat 3 hurricane. |
Melbourne FL - Another decapitated
piece of the power grid. |
Melbourne FL - Plywood is
no guarantee of salvation. Notice the blow-out in the roof at
the upper-left of the frame. Once wind gets in, all bets are
off. |
Palm Bay FL - Good thing
they never pressure wash this place. Otherwise, you wouldn't
be able to read the sign now. |
Palm Bay FL - A mechanic's
garage on US-1. Garage door failure resulted in the ultimate
destruction of this block building. |
Barefoot Bay FL - This mobile
home had the storm shutters down. It's roof ended up in the
tree anyway. |
Closer view of the roof in the tree. |
Sebastian FL - Riverview
Mobile Villa |
Makes me think of one grateful line in "Son Of A Son
Of A Sailor" |
Sebastian FL - I was parked
on the southbound shoulder of US-1 when I heard a horrible crunch
and this northbound E.V. skidded to a halt. It caught its emergency
light & siren
rig on a low-hanging high voltage power line. The debris in
front of the
truck is what's left of the emergency lights. These damaged
lines can be very dangerous to drivers. They are hard to see
because they're gray and blend in well with the stormy sky.
A foot lower and the driver may have been decapitated. |
Micco FL - Forget the plywood!
This used auto parts dealer on US-1 boarded up using merchandise
instead. Looks like it worked well. |
Micco FL - That thing in
the tree is the roof of a house from over 100 yards away on
the other side of US-1. |
Micco FL - There's a better
view of the intercoastal from the sofa now, but insects
may be a problem. Seriously, these things should be illegal
in Florida. |
Sebastian FL - The Sebastian
Inlet Marina had the most impressive damage of all. The next
few photos show how Jeanne blasted a huge steel boat storage
building.
Those are steel roof trusses bent in half. |
The south end of the building |
A closer view. Note all the metal twisted in the trees. |
Stripped naked of it's sheet metal. Also notice the buckled
steel roof trusses. |
The pile of boats inside the building. |
Jeanne's storm surge carried this large tri-hull catamaran
over to the west side of
US-1 into someone's front yard. |
Looking south down US-1. Notice that the boat took out a power
poll. |
Flooding was also a big problem in Micco and Malabar.
These people were trapped but in good spirits considering
the circumstances. |
You'd think business would be looking up for this firm in
Malabar... |
...but they have their own problems to deal with first. |
God Bless all of us. |
